2023 Top Ten: Toddler Artsy Play (1-3 years)

Toddler art can take time to interpret, but there’s no questioning their enthusiasm for making it! The items below are recommended to help kiddo work on artistic skills that can develop into their own sense of confidence when making. To purchase any item, click on the title to access!

1.Reverse Coloring Sheets

These sheets are best for an older toddler, and allow kiddo to start with a black sheet and ‘remove’ the top layer to display the colors beneath. It comes with stencils, but kiddo will quickly see how to make these their own.

2. Create your own Kite

This kite kit allows kiddo to decorate the kite! It comes in a pack in case of any accidents and is a great way to talk about how things look close up versus far away.

3. Easel

An easel is a great way to introduce various types of art tools like markers, crayons, and paints! This particular easel has a roll of paper attachment that allows it to continuously roll, so you don’t have to tape up paper each session.

4. Paper Roll for Easel

We highly recommend buying easel paper in a set of 2, you never know how much a project can take! On rainy days, we roll this across the tile floor, write out a word/phrase, and let kiddo go to town coloring in the letters.

5. Holiday themed Painting

Grabbing some generic shapes for holidays is a great way to entertain kiddo and save some memories! We recommend having kiddo paint both sides of this star for 4th of July and, once it dries, putting a paint handprint over the top. These can be used for decor each year! We like to do shapes for the major decorating holidays to work up a collection that can also reflect kiddo’s growth over the years.

6. Nontoxic Crayons

These 100% Beeswax crayons are a great size for 1 year olds. This brand also makes various sizes, but the crayons are all nontoxic.

7. Stickers

The classic sticker has to make this list! While the cleanup can be daunting of they’re used everywhere, stickers make a great tool to work on fine motor skills and can be used as an additional medium to enhance works of art. These star stickers can be used for 4th of July or any time!

8. Paint the fence/ground

These brushes are great for indoor projects, but the larger brushes we’d recommend using in the warm months! Get a bowl of water and ask kiddo to paint the wood/concrete floor or fence. The water leaves no markings and kiddo can learn how water dries!

9. Glue Party

Be prepared with patience for this one, but allowing kiddo to practice with glue is a good way to develop listening skills and fine motor skills. We recommend laying down paper, drawing shapes, and having kiddo glue in the corresponding items from this foam bucket!

10. Smock

While a little mess never hurt anyone, for the days you need it to be an easy cleanup, we recommend proactively purchasing a smock. These also include pockets for kiddo to hold brushes/napkins as needed!
